Intro to Outdoor Leader
Skills
June 1st
and 2nd 2012
August 24th
and 25th 2012
The Tanana
Valley District invites you to participate in Introduction to Outdoor
Leader Skills, a fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the
outdoors, designed to help you master basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot
to First Class. The cost will be $25 per participant. Don’t put it off!
This training is important to having a strong productive unit.
Instructors will help you learn how to set up
camp, cook, work with woods tools and about ropes, first aid, planning
campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing techniques,
nature identification, and Leave No Trace. Each outdoor session will bring
to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise
of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve. It will increase your
comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The
program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders
from your area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with
fellow unit leaders.
This course is more than just learning the skills,
but also how to better teach those skills to the Scouts we serve. To do this
we fall back on the pride of the Boy Scout program, the patrol method, so
come and learn how the patrols can help YOU make your outdoor program even
better!
This Training
is required for ALL Scoutmasters and Assistants.
